One of the perks of being an Optimum Cable customer is the relatively easy to find wifi hot spots. Risa was able to have a connection not only on her mooring, but even while sailing in the bay! A high power bridge and large omnidirectional antenna combination made this possible. This spring the optimum SSID disappeared from my scans for a week or so, then upon its return, Risa could not connect to it. Rather than troubleshoot the problem, I switched SSID association of Risa’s bridge to our club’s wifi. Unfortunately it frequently will lose the association. A re-scan and re-association solves the problem, but often no one is onboard to do that when it occurs.

A few lines of code on the Raspberry Pi to check the connection to the internet and send a reboot command to the router.
